It’s a Wrap: Round Two of HBOT

March 20, 2018Leave a comment

During the first week of March, we had our 40th and final dive of our second round of hyperbaric oxygen therapy treatment. We were originally supposed to wrap up during the final week of February, however, due to a couple of snow days and a mid-treatment respiratory infection, we took a few days off during … Continue reading It’s a Wrap: Round Two of HBOT

HBOT FAQs

Every time before we start a new therapy or see a new doctor, I have trouble sleeping. I sit up, worrying about what could happen or what could go wrong. The fear of the unknown always comes out to play. This was very much the case last night. Today, we are starting our second round … Continue reading HBOT FAQs

On Vision and HBOT

July 6, 2017Leave a comment

For those of you who have been following our blog since the beginning, you might remember my constant worry over Solly’s vision. Sol was born with his eyes somewhat stuck looking towards the left. A part of the initial prognosis given was that he could be blind. (Note to Mom’s new to a pediatric stroke … Continue reading On Vision and HBOT

Wrapping Up HBOT

May 26, 2017June 28, 2017Leave a comment

When we first started hyperbaric oxygen therapy, the idea of doing 40 dives felt so daunting. Perhaps it was only because we could do one per day – or perhaps it was because the idea of being squeezed in a tube with a wiggly (and pinching, biting, and screaming) toddler was a bit too much. … Continue reading Wrapping Up HBOT

Getting Started with Medical Cannabis

July 26, 20202 Comments

This is one of those posts that took me approximately one million years to write. It’s a post about starting Solly on medical cannabis, a subject that I’m still on the cusp of beginning to understand even though I’ve researched it for years. Before I begin the post, it’s important for me to note that, … Continue reading Getting Started with Medical Cannabis

It’s Show Tunes Wednesday! Nothing makes a session in Solly’s @trexorobotics more fun than jamming to his favorite musical soundtrack. 🎵🎶

April is #HIE Awareness Month. This month, Solly is walking with @trexorobotics in the virtual #hustleforhope 5K in support of his buddies whose lives have been impacted by HIE. So far, he’s logged just over one mile towards his 3.1 mile goal. To learn about HIE and how you can help raise awareness, see @hopeforhie or https://www.hopeforhie.org. #hopeforhie #trexowalkingclub
It’s appropriate that Solly and I spent National #CerebralPalsy Awareness Day just like any other day: running from appointment to appointment.
Blue eyes & blue skies ☀️
Hi friends! Solly has been nominated for an @american_heart #StrokeHero award, in the Voters' Choice category. If you have a few seconds, please consider submitting a vote for him. Having #pediatricstroke survivors included in this awards program is fairly new, and by being included in this category, we are helping to raise awareness that strokes can and do happen at any age. Voting is open through March 31 and you can cast one vote per day. Thank you! (Link in profile)
Dr. Solly McDreamy reported for duty at @napacenter’s “essential workers day” yesterday, the last day of our 7th intensive. This kid kicked some major booty and worked so incredibly hard for four hours a day over the past three weeks! We’re proud of how he shows up every day, ready to learn and play. We’ve already seen some new skills shine during each hour of therapy and, as we’ve learned with past intensives, will likely see some additional skills emerge in the coming weeks as he continues to build on what he learned during the intensive. We’re forever grateful for the team that worked with Solly (mostly included in the picture, but missing Miss Rebecca and Miss Liz!) and we feel extra lucky that we get to head back to NAPA next week to resume Solly’s weekly therapies in-person.
NAPA Intensive Day 14: it’s hard to believe we only have one day left in this intensive! Solly has worked incredibly hard these past three weeks, with notable gains in postural control, purposeful stepping, side-stepping, and side-kicking, as well as some new sounds in speech. This video is from Solly’s Dynamic Movement Intervention (DMI) hour earlier this week and shows off some of Solly’s new skills as he works through a CME exercise.
NAPA Intensive Day 12: Nothing motivates Solly more than when @thaking_bawss1 stops by to say hi or, in this case, get a sandwich from Solly. He loves Mr. E!
I’m not sure who was happier to spend Sunday morning at the dog beach: the pups or Bea.
